So PBS finally released Art & Copy on DVD a couple weeks ago. After watching it a few times within the span of 24 hours and feeling completely energized about why I made this career choice, I began to delve deeper into information about all of these influential figures. Coming from a traditional design curriculum, I was not exposed to the history and significance of a lot of the agencies and campaigns the documentary discusses. Why you should like Nick Thune

Maybe it is just the nature of our industry, but lately I have found the kinds of observations a five-year-old makes absolutely hilarious. There is something appealing in pointing out the absurdity of the everyday. Comedian Nick Thune takes these simple plays on words and logical fallacies and builds an entire act upon the contradictions we overlook. Think of him as a modern-day Lewis Carroll. With a guitar.

AR (Mainstream) Advertising Finally Arrives

Augmented Reality Advertising

Augmented reality (AR) has been picking up steam for a little over a year now, so it was really only a matter of time before digital folks figured out a way to capitalize on it. Enter Brightkite, an Android and iPhone app that teamed up with Best Buy to run GEO-targeted ads on your cell phone, served up by Google. Arguably, though, Foursquare has been dabbling in a similar, but smaller, approach for several months.

The jury may still be out on whether this is incredibly effective advertising or an invasive annoyance. Either way, it’s an amazing application of mobile and AR.
